Admissions

Kevin

We're happy that you're interested in the Governor's Academy for Engineering Studies at LC Bird. Students who do well in our program are usually proficient at math & science and have an interest for building things.

How to Apply

All interested 8th graders should pick up a specialty center application from their school counselor or from the Chesterfield County website. These applications are due the first week in December. Your application will include a statement of interest. This is an essay that should explain why you are interested in our program. You'll also need two teacher reccomendations; one of which has to be from a current math or science teacher.

Math Aptitude Test

All applicants will be required to take a math aptitude test that will gauge their mathematic abilities. No knowledge of algebra or geometry is required. This assesment should be taken at the governor's academy on a given test date in January. A makeup date will be supplied if the student can't make the first one.

Three-Year Program

The Governor's Academy for Engineering Studies at LC Bird offers a unique three-year program for upcoming sophomore students. Applicants who may not have been accepted the previous year or students who are just finding out about our program are encouraged to apply. Interested students should visit Mrs. Hoover in SC 2 to recieve an application. It should be noted that students who are interested in the three-year program are not required to take the math aptitude test.
